India’s push to localise the solar supply chain is reaching beyond modules and cells — and into the materials that hold a panel together. Nayurja Bharat Private Limited, operating as Navurja, plans to invest ₹1,000 crore to set up a solar component manufacturing complex in the Manufacturing Zone for Renewable Energy Equipment at Mohasa-Babai, Narmadapuram, in the Bhopal Metropolitan Region of Madhya Pradesh.

Navurja is the clean energy venture of the Delhi-based Super Circle Group, incorporated as a joint venture with Jakson, one of India’s established solar module manufacturers. According to the announcement publicised by the Bhopal Development Index, the project will come up on a 16-acre site in two phases.

What will be made

Phase 1 is the headline: construction of what is billed as India’s largest domestic solar encapsulant film manufacturing facility, with an initial production capacity sufficient for 3 GW of modules, scalable to 10 GW. Encapsulant films — typically EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) or POE (polyolefin elastomer) — are the layers that bond a module’s glass, cells and backsheet together and protect cells from moisture and mechanical stress. India today imports much of this material, so meaningful domestic capacity would fill a real gap in the supply chain.

Phase 2 adds manufacturing of solar aluminium frames, another component where domestic module makers still lean on imports.

Why Mohasa-Babai

The Mohasa-Babai industrial area has been positioned by the Madhya Pradesh government as a dedicated manufacturing hub for power and renewable energy equipment, and it is filling up fast. Jakson itself has begun Phase I of a 6 GW integrated solar cell and module facility in the same zone, and other manufacturers have announced investments there as the state competes for a share of India’s clean-energy manufacturing build-out.

For the partners, the logic is straightforward: Jakson brings solar manufacturing experience and a captive customer for encapsulants next door, while Super Circle brings materials and processing expertise. If the plant is delivered as announced, it would strengthen the “everything but the polysilicon” ecosystem taking shape in central India — modules, cells, and now the films and frames around them.
